Reading comprehension forms part of the new 11 plus exam and therefore children need to have lots of practice in this area. They must become familiar with all the different question types that appear on the test ranging from selecting information directly from the text to the more subtle and sophisticated question types of inference and deduction.

In addition, regular reading is absolutely paramount to developing vocabulary and understanding. Reading a good range of fiction and non-fiction is the best way to enhance comprehension skills.
