Reading comprehension

Reading comprehension forms part of the new 11 plus exam and therefore children need to have lots of practice in this area. They must become familiar with all the different question types that appear on the test ranging from selecting information directly from the text to the more subtle and sophisticated question types of inference and deduction.

There are some great tips on how best to tackle the range of question types and to complete a comprehension exercise successfully on the link below. All these skills and techniques are taught and practiced as part of the course at 11 Plus Wirral.

Additional workbooks can be bought to support learning also-I would recommend Bond, CGP or First Past the Post workbooks.

In addition, regular reading is absolutely paramount to developing vocabulary and understanding. Reading a good range of fiction and non-fiction is the best way to enhance comprehension skills.
